California Gay Adventures (“CGA,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you visit californiagayadventures.org, our member community, or use our services (collectively, the “Services”). It also describes the rights available to California residents under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA/CPRA”).

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of personal information:

  • Identifiers: name, email address, postal address, phone number, account username.
  • Customer records: payment information processed by our third-party providers (we do not store full card numbers).
  • Commercial information: events attended, trips booked, membership history.
  • Internet activity: browsing behavior, IP address, device and browser information, and interactions with our website collected via cookies, pixels, and similar technologies, including through Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel.
  • Geolocation data: general location when relevant to events or trip logistics.
  • Sensitive personal information: because CGA is an LGBTQ+ organization, your membership or participation may reveal or imply information about your sexual orientation. We treat this as sensitive personal information and use it only as necessary to provide our Services. We do not use or disclose it to infer characteristics about you, and we do not sell or share it.

2. How We Collect It

We collect information directly from you (when you register, book an event, or contact us), automatically through your use of our website, and from third-party platforms we use to operate the community and process payments.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

  • Provide, manage, and improve the Services and your membership.
  • Process registrations, payments, and bookings.
  • Communicate about events, trips, updates, and inquiries.
  • Measure and analyze website traffic and performance.
  • Deliver and measure advertising and marketing.
  • Maintain security and prevent fraud.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. How We Disclose Your Information

We may disclose personal information to:

  • Service providers who perform functions on our behalf (e.g., hosting, payment processing, community platform, email delivery, website analytics).
  • Advertising partners, as described in Section 5 below.
  • Legal and safety purposes, where required by law or to protect rights and safety.

In the preceding 12 months, we have disclosed identifiers, commercial information, and internet activity to service providers and advertising partners for business and advertising purposes.

5. Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising Technologies

We use cookies, pixels, and similar tracking technologies to operate the website, remember preferences, analyze traffic, and support advertising. These include:

  • Strictly necessary cookies required for the website to function.
  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website. Google Analytics collects information such as your IP address, device and browser data, pages visited, and on-site activity. We use Google Analytics as a service provider and have not enabled Google advertising features that would link this data to advertising profiles.   • Advertising cookies (Meta Pixel): We use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our advertising and to show relevant ads to you and similar audiences on Meta platforms (Facebook and Instagram). The Meta Pixel may collect information about your device, browser, and activity on our website and transmit it to Meta. You can control cookies through your browser settings and through our cookie preference tool. Disabling some cookies may affect website functionality.

6. Sale or Sharing of Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information for money.

However, our use of the Meta Pixel for advertising may constitute “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under the CCPA/CPRA. The categories of personal information that may be shared in this way are identifiers and internet activity. California residents have the right to opt out of this sharing (see Section 8).

We do not sell or share the personal information of consumers we know to be under 16 years of age. We do not sell or share sensitive personal information.

7. Your California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and the sources and purposes.
  • Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Delete personal information we have collected, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.

  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information to what is necessary to provide the Services.
  • Non-discrimination: we will not deny services, charge different prices, or provide a different level of service because you exercised your rights.

You may use an authorized agent; we may require proof of authorization. We will respond within the timeframes required by law (generally 45 days, extendable once).

8. Your Right to Opt Out of Sharing

To opt out of the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, you may:

  • Use our “Your Privacy Choices” link located in the website footer.
  • Enable a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser. We treat a valid GPC signal as a request to opt out of sharing for the browser or device from which it is sent.

9. Shine the Light

California’s “Shine the Light” law permits California residents to request information about disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 without the legally required consent. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when posted, and the “Last updated” date reflects the latest revision.
